{"id":179,"date":"2003-12-17T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2003-12-17T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/editorium.com\/archive\/?p=179"},"modified":"2013-10-25T23:10:21","modified_gmt":"2013-10-25T23:10:21","slug":"microsofts-font-properties-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/editorium.com\/archive\/microsofts-font-properties-extension\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft&#039;s Font Properties Extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you work a lot with fonts, you'll probably be interested in Microsoft's Font Properties Extension, which will run under Windows 95 or higher (sorry, Mac users).<\/p>\n<p>The extension makes it possible to display information about a font's origin, copyright, and licensing; its hinting and smoothing; whether or not the font can be embedded in a document; and perhaps most important, the font's character set.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft notes that the extension also \"includes version and date information\" and \"describes the font in terms of number of glyphs, number of kerning pairs, the possible existence of a euro symbol, and the presence of embedded bitmaps within the font.\"<\/p>\n<p>It's a useful tool, and best of all, it's free.
